In your first class you’ll run through the warm ups and movement drills.
Then the instructor will show one or two technique to the class. Next you’ll partner up with and go over the technique of the day. Then after working technique the class will go into what is called “rolling,” this is the time for grappling also known as sparring. For beginners the live rolls can be intimidating at times but we encourage you to jump in if and when you’re comfortable doing so. We always do our best to partner you up with a student that has more experience so that its a positive and fun experience for you.

Yes 100% Jiu Jitsu is right for you. It has so many benefits that help our ladies grow in confidence and skill set that can help them in a tough situation. What you will learn doesn’t just work on the mat but is also very much life applicable. We encourage all women to come try it out.

Jiu Jitsu will help your child in so many ways. They will grow in skill set, fitness, team work, respect, consistency, humility and the list goes on! We encourage all children to try Jiu Jitsu.

Men can wear gym attire like a T-Shirt and gym shorts. Ladies can wear sports tops with a T-Shirt over it unless it’s a full sports top and gym pants. Pretty much anything you don’t mind sweating in with nothing metallic on it.

No you do not! Regardless what shape you’re in we have room for all levels and all we ask for is effort. Take it a class at a time and you will start seeing and feeling the difference in yourself from the consistent training.

We want all students to find a home that is the right fit for you even if it means not a Checkmat BJJ gym. Yes Jiu Jitsu is a great option for positive physical activity. It’s a positive stress that challenges all in many levels and planes while increasing heart rate, mobility and functionality. 

No there is not! We take students from ages 3.5 to seniors.

Respect your fellow teammates. Bow facing the mat before you get on or off it. When your instructor is demonstrating technique watch and no talking. Be mindful of yourself and others on the mat so to not harm your teammates or risk injury. 

Absolutely you’d enjoy kickboxing. It’s fun yet very challenging. You’ll learn proper striking, kicks, knees, footwork, head movement and combinations. Our goal it to train you as if you were to get into the ring and compete. Train right, train hard!
